“A Danish zoo invites the public to hand over living pets and horses to be killed and fed to predators—an act disguised as conservation but rooted in cruelty, betrayal, and convenience killing.”
For those who, like me, live in a Scandinavian country—Sweden in my case—and who are animal rights advocates, this news will sadly come as no surprise. The Aalborg Zoo in Denmark has issued a request for people to “donate” (their exact word) their companion animals so they can be used to feed the zoo’s predators.
Although the zoo denies including cats and dogs on the list of such animals—a blatant lie that makes this practice even more despicable—other companion animals are indeed on it. Rabbits and horses, for instance.
To make this practice even more grotesque, there is a financial incentive attached, as reported in an X (Twitter) post by the Brigitte Bardot Foundation:
**”SHAMEFUL: A Danish zoo invites individuals to give away their companion animal or horse… to feed its big cats! Yes, you read that correctly. Donated horses can even qualify for a tax deduction. Presented as an ‘anti-waste’ initiative, this request is not only shocking but profoundly shameful.
How can anyone dare suggest that citizens hand over their beloved companion to be turned into a meal for predators?
Despite what the zoo wants people to believe, by ‘donating’ a rabbit or guinea pig, the person is in fact delivering their companion animal straight to the lions. Whether the zoo likes it or not, rabbits are indeed considered companion animals (NAC – nouveaux animaux de compagnie).
Even more serious than this deception is the fact that this is essentially a disguised appeal to abandon animals. It becomes all too easy to get rid of one’s pet before going on holiday, while feeling morally justified.
This practice also enables a form of ‘convenience euthanasia.’ The zoo offers to ‘euthanise them gently’—an ideal solution for owners wanting to get rid of an expensive horse without going through a veterinarian… with the added bonus of a tax deduction.
The FBB forcefully denounces this procedure and reminds everyone that an animal is neither waste, nor an available prey, nor a stockpile of meat. This announcement reflects an absolute contempt for animal life and a deeply troubling normalisation of abandonment.”**

Sadly, this is not an isolated mindset. In Sweden, it is disturbingly common for people to euthanise healthy dogs and cats simply because they no longer want them—due to busy lives, holiday plans, or a general disregard for life that seems deeply ingrained here.
Sweden still maintains the obsolete and deadly Skansen Zoo, a place where death is served daily. Aalborg Zoo, however, has taken cruelty a step further. This is the same institution infamous for killing a healthy giraffe and an elephant for trivial reasons. Zoos themselves are relics of the past and have no place in a civilised society, but justifying their inability to care for imprisoned predators by resorting to this abomination speaks volumes about the state of the zoo—and of Denmark as a whole.
Denmark’s prime minister Mette Frederiksen, who believes war is equivalent to peace (hardly the most intelligent pea in the pod, and with questionable legitimacy), might want to seek psychiatric assistance. The country is a failure—politically, morally, and socially.
Scandinavian nations like to pretend they are morally superior, but when it comes to protecting the vulnerable—whether elderly humans or innocent animals—they can be far worse. The eugenic principles that still run through their societies spare no one.

The Shame of Veterinary Betrayal at Aalborg Zoo
Veterinary medicine is a profession founded on compassion, healing, and the protection of life. Its oath is to prevent suffering—not to legitimise killing for convenience, profit, or spectacle.
At Aalborg Zoo in Denmark, two veterinarians have abandoned that oath. They have chosen to enable and oversee the killing of healthy companion animals—rabbits, guinea pigs, even horses—so that the zoo’s predators can be fed. This is not about conservation. It is about normalising the idea that a living, trusting companion animal can be “donated” to be killed and turned into meat.
